University Forest Cleanup - OLD EVENT
|
- WHEN:
April 24th @ 1:00 PM
- WHERE:
Darnell Hollow in the University Forest
- Info:
Darnell Hollow, part of the University
Forest Section of Coopers Rock State Forest,
is sadly a favorite target of illegal dumpers.
For the 5th consecutive year, and 6th year
overall, the Coopers Rock Foundation is
organizing a Clean-Up of the University Forest,
including Darnell Hollow. This year's event
is co-hosted by the newly-formed Coopers Rock
Regional Climbers Coalition. Volunteers are
asked to meet at 1 p.m. on Sunday the 24th of
April. Follow signs from the turn-off from 857
to the Registration Table, where gloves, bags,
and refreshments will be available. There will
be a raffle at the end of the day with tickets
based on the number of hours worked.
New for this year is a graffitti clean-up
along the road through Darnell Hollow --
cleaning supplies provided. Earlybirds are
welcome for that beginning at noon.
If you have a pick-up truck and would
like to help out shuttling garbage from our
clean-up spots to special dumpsters in
Morgantown, your help will be especially
appreciated.
In the past 4 years, the annual amount of
garbage collected has gone from 8 tons, to
3 1/2 tons, to 3 tons, to 1 1/2 tons, so the
battle is being won! This tally does not
include a few hundred tires.
